About the Artist
Statement
My work reflects my emotional response to difficult situations, as well as my attachment to certain places and people. Exploring various techniques and mediums expands my opportunity to express myself and create more meaningful pieces. As an emotional and sensitive person, sometimes my feelings can overwhelm me, and it can become difficult to calm down. In moments like those, my visual communication through painting acts as a regulator to allow me to control my emotions rather than them controlling me. Through painting, not only can I freeze a moment and its meaning in time, but I create my own unique environments that help me communicate. Although experiencing many emotions can, at times, be a hindrance, I have learned to be grateful for my ability to feel so strongly. Now, I believe that my purpose is to create meaningful art from these emotions.

Nostalgia, melancholy, and judgment are all sentiments that many people, including myself, feel. My communication of the potency of these feelings is best through paint and canvas. Whether the emotion is positive or negative, I intend for the viewer to have a natural reaction to my artwork; I want to create a special bond between each viewer, the piece, and myself.

Stylistically, the most uniform aspect of my paintings is using thick and bold brush strokes. As a painter, taking advantage of the consistency of the medium is very important to me. The versatility of paint is what intrigues me the most. In different paintings, thick brush strokes convey looseness, freedom, texture, pattern, or energy. In addition to my brushstrokes, I try to curate a specific palette in each piece. This increases the visual cohesion, which in turn creates a distinct environment.
